Sri Sundara Vinayagar Temple in Chikkinapuram, Tirupur District, Tamil Nadu, did not rise from royal patronage or public funding. It stands today because one man — Sellappa Gounder — chose to give everything he had to something greater than himself. Over 100 years ago, he looked at his land and saw not personal wealth, but a means to keep Lord Ganesha's worship alive for generations he would never live to meet.
On 31 July 1921, Sellappa Gounder registered a legal will dedicating agricultural land in Uthupalayam village, Tirupur District, to Sri Sundara Vinayagar Temple — not as a transaction, but as a covenant. He began with 7.5 acres and doubled his gift to 15 acres. Sellappa Gounder and his wife Nachammal had no children — this donation was his entire estate given as an irrevocable act of faith.
Sri Sundara Vinayagar — the gracious, beautiful form of Lord Ganesha — is the presiding deity of this temple in the Dharapuram Taluk area of Tirupur District. Devotees come seeking wisdom, clarity in life decisions, and the removal of obstacles. In Tamil Hindu tradition, Vinayagar is invoked at the start of every undertaking, making this temple a first stop for devotees across the Kongu Nadu region.
